On 25 November Suzuki introduced the all-new S-CROSS in a world premiere online. The new S-CROSS brings together bold SUV styling with comfort. It also features powerful, yet environmentally conscious driving performance, advanced safety features and connectivity. Moreover, as an environmental effort for the European market, Suzuki also announced that it will expand its strong hybrid lineup from next year.

The all-new S-CROSS is the latest model in the SUV 4WD lineup that Suzuki has built over 50 years.

“Bold, Sophisticated, Versatile. The all-new S-CROSS is an SUV that delivers on these three concepts, all at a very high level,” remarked Chief Engineer Shigeru Aoyama at the world premiere.

The bold design immediately communicates the dignified form of a rugged SUV from any angle. A large, piano-black grille, sharp headlamps equipped with high-luminance 3-point LEDs, and square front and rear wheel arches together with the confident silver garnishes on the front and rear work to communicate the aggressive SUV nature of the all-new S- CROSS.

The S-CROSS features sophisticated control technology. With a torque-filled, 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine and the 48V SHVS mild hybrid system, it is efficient yet full of power. ALLGRIP SELECT 4×4, a 9-inch display audio and a host of advanced safety technologies add fun and peace of mind to the driving experience.
The interior has a three-dimensional design that suits the character of a powerful SUV. The spacious cabin comfortably sits 5 adults while the large-capacity 430-litre cargo area offers superb versatility to support a variety of outdoor and leisure activities. The wide- opening panoramic sunroof further enhances the enjoyment of the ride.

At the world premiere, President Toshihiro Suzuki proudly declared, “In Europe, all our passenger cars are mild hybrids, and we will increase our strong hybrid line-up from next year.” In the latter half of next year, the all-new S-CROSS will also offer a strong hybrid and connected services.

The all-new S-CROSS will be produced at Magyar Suzuki in Hungary, and will be sold in Latin America, Oceania and Asia, with sales starting in Europe at the end of the year.

Strong Hybrid

Suzuki’s new strong hybrid system combines a newly developed fuel-powered engine with a single Motor Generator Unit (MGU) and Auto Gear Shift (AGS). It supports both hybrid driving and EV driving (inactive engine) for low fuel consumption.
Even at low rpm, the powerful, highly efficient motor can smoothly start off and accelerate the vehicle, as well as power the vehicle alone (EV driving with inactive engine) while creeping, cruising and driving in reverse for quiet operation and minimal fuel consumption.

One notable feature of the new system is the placement of the MGU on the output side of the AGS, a transmission that automatically shifts MT gears and operates the clutch. Thanks to this configuration, MGU output is directly transmitted to the driveshaft to fill the torque gap during shifting for a smooth shift feeling. In addition, it contributes to collecting kinetic energy and generates electricity efficiently by stopping the engine and disengaging the clutch during deceleration. This expands the EV driving range.

It is possible to choose between Standard mode and Eco mode. In Standard mode, the MGU more frequently assists the engine for more spirited driving while Eco mode increases the frequency of EV driving for increased fuel efficiency.

The new strong hybrid system will be available next year in Europe, first in the Vitara followed by the S-CROSS.
